Located in the Sierra Nevadas, the 75 acre Brownfield site once contained two large gold mines during the 1800's Gold Rush. Later the site became a sawmill and plywood plant. The mining waste rock (arsenic and metals) and solidWaste chemicals, such as fuel spills and wood treating chemicals, used over the years demanded mitigation efforts for environmental restoration.

Carlton Engineering's Environmental Specialists provided consultation to the client and represented the client with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC). Carlton worked with the local environmental management department and with the State agencies and completed a Voluntary Cleanup Agreement (VCA) with DTSC as the lead agency. With remediation complete in 2005, the once impacted site will be cleared for commercial and residential development.
